Arctic Cold Wave to Grip Ukraine: Temperatures May Plunge to −30°C in Early February

Ukraine is set to face a severe cold snap at the turn of January and February, as Arctic air moves into the country. In some regions, temperatures could drop as low as −30°C. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warned that after a brief period of milder weather, another powerful wave of cold will arrive and persist into early February. According to Ivan Semilyt, a forecaster at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the upcoming frosts will be particularly intense in certain areas. “In some places, the thermometer may fall to −30,” he said. Semilyt explained that on January 31, weather conditions will be shaped by the clash of two major systems: a warm southern cyclone centered over the Sea of Azov and a cold anticyclone positioned over Finland. As a result, western and northern regions, along with Vinnytsia and Cherkasy oblasts, are expected to see dry weather accompanied by moderate frost.
