U.S. and Russian Special Envoys Hold Talks on Ukraine: Initial Details Emerge

U.S. and Russian special representatives have held talks aimed at advancing a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. The meetings took place in Florida and were described as constructive by U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff.

Witkoff shared details of the discussions on social media platform X, noting that the talks were part of ongoing U.S. mediation efforts. According to him, Russia’s Special Representative Kirill Dmitriev participated in the meetings, which focused on potential pathways toward ending the conflict.

“Today in Florida, Russia’s Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev held productive and constructive meetings as part of U.S. mediation efforts to advance a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict,” Witkoff wrote.

The U.S. envoy also outlined the makeup of the American delegation involved in the discussions. Alongside Witkoff, the talks were attended by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, Jared Kushner, and White House Senior Adviser Josh Gruenbaum.

In addition, Witkoff expressed optimism regarding the outcome of the meetings and highlighted the role of U.S. leadership in the negotiation process. He emphasized that Washington views the talks as a positive signal.

“We are encouraged by this meeting that Russia is working to ensure peace in Ukraine, and we are grateful to the U.S. President for his decisive leadership in the pursuit of a strong and lasting peace,” Witkoff said.
